Who I am

Highly qualified and motivated professional

My tuition business has been active since 2012. During that time I have taught more than one hundred different children, with ages ranging from 7 to 18, totalling more than 6000 hours of tuition.

I am passionate about what I do and greatly value my privileged position as a teacher and tutor, being able to guide and shape children's experiences in their learning and educational journey. Nothing pleases me more than seeing pupils develop and hone key skills in the 3 subjects I teach - Maths, English and Spanish.

One of my key mottos I say to my pupils is:

'Together we are stronger.'

With signicant inputs from both sides, great things can be achieved.

"The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you."

What is Inspire-Tuition's
ethos and how does it work?

I'm sure we have all at some stage in our lives, whether that was in a classroom, one-to-one tuition or in an adult learning environment, felt disengaged from the information that we're being taught. It's a horrible feeling. We end up wanting the session to end, a different approach to occur, or we simply get distracted. Well, I aim to be different because I am always planning carefully and getting my students on side, behind what we are doing and why we are doing it. The end goals need to be firmly set in our minds from the outset. In effect, I try to spot the disconnectedness before it happens.

Inspire-Tuition aims to build strong relationships with students, making them feel comfortable and listened to every time we meet. It is a safe space to explore ideas, ask questions and grow as an individual. It's an opportunity to build confidence, to sharpen the tools needed to express strengths and overcome barriers to learning.

Inspire-Tuition is about team work; it's about togetherness and pulling for each other. It's up to me to spot when lessons need a different direction or a different focus in order to get the very best out of the time we have.

And more than anything, Inspire-Tuition aims to make education enjoyable and fun.

About me

My name is Adam Large and I qualified as a teacher in 2007. After 5 years working in a state school, I was getting disillusioned with the time I was spending away from children, not being able to actually teach, whether that was because I was marking books, filling in health and safety forms, or sitting in long, drawn out meetings. I really didn't feel as if my skills were being utilised to their full potential and it seemed to be getting worse.

Therefore I made the very difficult decision to step away from school life and go it alone as a tutor. Since doing this I have never looked back and I now have quality one-to-one teaching many times a week. I have thoroughly enjoyed the connection and the relationships I have built up with pupils over months and years of working together. That focused attention brought its own rewards as I immediately saw much more progress being made.

At the onset of the coronavirus, like many people, I began to work online. Initially this was a daunting task: I wondered how I could maintain the feeling of connectedness with the children; how I could still get my point across clearly; and how I could still encourage passion in the subject which I felt so strongly. However, I soon found that I could do everything I was doing in-person online too - maybe even more so! Sharing documents easily and using interactive tools has kept focus on point, has captured the imagination and motivated pupils in their learning.

Also, I found that many parents found it convenient because lessons could be taught from anywhere there was a signal or broadband (I have given lessons while people have been caught in traffic in the car and also many times from abroad), and parents didn't always have to be around waiting for me to arrive at home so it was far more flexible.

Having said all of that, I still offer some sessions in person, if needed, as long as it's within 5 miles radius of where I live. I also invite pupils to my home too.

I am passionate about the subjects I teach. Students need to see, hear and feel that passion and feel encouraged and motivated by it and that's where true learning takes place. Humour has also played its part and helps to put children at ease and this then engages pupils further and makes them feel comfortable and ready to trust the process.
